Dining Alfresco...

Doesn't that sound glamorous? Dining Alfresco. Yesterday we just did that very thing. We ate lunch outside on our deck...in the sun. The Sun! It finally decided to make an appearance and when it did it was even warm enough to enjoy our meal out in it.

We're alfresco diners at our house. We eat out there every chance we get from the time it's warm enough in the spring until it is just too chilly in the fall. Our house faces the west, so summer evenings are nice on our deck(which faces the east)...at least until the humidity and heat set in by mid-summer and even then you will usually find us eating dinner out there in the evening.

With windows thrown open and the warm sun we had a little hint of spring yesterday. It was a much-needed breath of fresh air for me and improved my outlook tremendously.

Gracie was enjoying the warmth of the deck yesterday too.

But, when she came in Kyler thought that she might be cold so he wrapped her up in one of his blankets. He is like a little mother hen...always taking care of her...
Then he thought she needed a hug...

See Mom...she is getting warm now...
Big brother needs to get in on the puppy love too. I'm pretty sure that if Gracie could talk she would be saying, "Okay, boys...I'm all warmed up and I'm DONE with all this love. Let me out of here"! She is very patient with all the attention she gets and, personally, I think she adores it.
Hmmm...what's this? Tune in next time...for more on our little experiment.

Jackie

  2. Ohhhhhhhhhhhhh! Are forcing pussy willows? Or maybe forsithia? [wrong spelling I know, but you'll sound it out, please] ,-)

Ohhhhhh I hope it's pussy willows! I so love them, as memories from childhood. :-)

  3. We love eating on our deck, but I don't think it was warm enough for me yesterday!
I did sit out there to rip some hems out of jeans I was mending for a neighbor.
Glad we've had a least a couple of days of sun, sounds like rain is coming our way.

  4. Dear Jackie, I have discovered your weblog through Jeanne [Tales From a Cottage Garden] and have, of course, fallen for Gracie - as I expect most people do. She is clearly very loved by your sons.

Eating outside is one of life's great pleasures. I am very fortunate as I divide my time between London and Budapest where, in Hungary, the weather is hot enough to have most meals outside in summer.

  5. Oh, eating outside! It's been a long time. I completely forgot about that joy. Actually, come to think of it, I've remembered recently but my fun idea was so much like a dream - you've just made it feel like a reality. Tom and I are trying to figure out how to carve out some space for a non-mowable dining area while keeping the integrity of our old fashioned federal farm house.

Thanks so much for coming over and visiting with me in the sunny spot!

    Love, Katy Noelle

  6. Jackie the pictures of Gracie and her two boys are priceless. Very cute. We dine alfresco here at home anytime that it is possible. We love eating outside :) We also choose alfresco when possible at restaurants. We hate being cooped up in the house :)

  8. Hello Jackie - good to see you again. I've missed your last few posts, and now I see that I've missed the death of your grandmother. I'm so sorry about that and it looks like it was a painful process for you. I hope that you can put it behind you and forgive and forget that pain. It was something that was out of your control - you were a kid.

Anyway, I wanted to say that our family eats outside, too, LOTS! When the weather allows, we're outside all the time. It's wonderful and it even makes the food taste better!

I had a beagle named Newton when I was a kid. He was a great dog!
