First Mammogram - Scheduled!

Well, I did it! I scheduled my very first mammogram for November 9th! I'm nervous about the discomfort/pain of the procedure. I'm scared they might find something!

It needs to be done...I'm 40 now...can't put it off! I'm relieved the appointment is made.

Any words of wisdom?

  1. No worries! I now have mine done at Ellis. I had a scary call from Ellis a few years ago. I thought 'why are they calling me?! A cancer hospital? and I've never even been there??'

Apparently there was something weird on my mammogram taken at my then ob/gyn's office, and they sent my films to EF. I had to make an appointment at Ellis for a review and another mammogram. Long story short, all was well (after a 2 week freaking out session for me). And now I always have mine done there. Wonderful place. Nice people and even relaxing. Discomfort? yes, some discomfort.. I won't lie to you. but that will vary with each person. For me, it's not unbearably bad - not so much that I dread my annual visit. You'll do fine :) -Tammy

  6. Well, it doesn't hurt. And if it's your first they may find something that is absolutely fine. Don't worry!

  8. I too alway get nervous about my appointments also. I'm OK with the discomfort of the procedure. Not bad. Think of it this way...if they find something during a routine mamogram...then they found it early. That would be good.

  9. Soooooo happy you made the appointment!

Don't even consider discomfort. Even if there is a little, it's quick. And the joy of a clear report, will soon wipe all thoughts of discomfort out of your mind.

Plus, early detection makes for survivors. My Daughter being one of them.

    Gentle hugs,

  10. Hi, I found you over at Menonewmom-Deb's blog.
You will be fine with the mammogram. It's awkward the first time, but not painful.
And because you are a woman of faith, just pray and believe that you are healthy and your stress my be relieved.
    I will visit again.
