Springtime Dreaming...

Since I'm dreaming of spring and summer right now I thought I'd share a post I did last June of a little tour through my garden. When I look outside at my gardens right now...they don't look so great. It helps me to look at how nice they were when they are in bloom. I always see things I want to change though. I have plans this year for a new cutting garden and I want to finish Lucky's Garden (a peaceful little place dedicated to our dog Lucky who died in 2006).

Enjoy!

Are you planning your gardens yet?

  1. Your garden truly was beautiful last summer! I love clematis and your hostas--so lush. We are already making plans for our garden this summer. We've pulled out a bunch of stuff to make room for more vegatables and some berry vines this year. Should be fun! :o)

  2. I love your garden, it was BEAUTIFUL. I have very few flowers. I love hydrangea though, and you have inspired me. I think I need to plant one this year! Our garden is a "food" garden. My husband is really the one who loves to garden, me, I'm kind of a fair weather gardener, don't like it when it gets too hot :)! We plant onions, corn, tomatoes, cucumbers, jalapenos, green peppers, and GREEN BEANS. We also can, a LOT. Last year we canned over 150 quarts of green beans. We froze dozens and dozens of quarts of corn. And I can't remember how many quarts of homemade salsa we did. I also did many many quarts of bread and butter pickles, and I made apple butter and peach jam. Whew. I'm tired just remembering it. But, when we have green beans for supper, or I open up a jar of salsa or pickles, I am reminded of how all our hard work really does pay off and it is so worth it. We have 5 canners (I know, weird huh?) and so we do a lot at a time! Thanks for the thoughts of summertime you just sent my way. And thanks for the comments on my blog. We will keep reminding each other just how blessed we truly are and one day when (if) God is ready for us to have that new house we will be so thankful because it was in His time, not ours :0!!! (My dream is a log home, how about yours?) Thanks again, and God bless you!!!

  4. How are you feeling Jackie? I'm just starting to feel better. My poor husband now has my nasty cold.
I have to say that I too have been peeking at pictures of my garden from last year. I hate to wish time away but I can't wait! Your flowers and plants are beautiful and so vibrant! Thanks for sharing a little bit of spring in the middle of winter.

  7. You aren't the only one dreaming of Spring! It's always fun to find a gardening kindred spirit. I am also a huge fan of Heirloom tomatoes! The names alone are enough to make you want to grow them but the flavor, oh my! Of all the ones I've grown, I think the flavor of Kellogg's Breakfast Tomato represents the ultimate in tomato taste.

I'm designing my trade show booth for the Spring Home and Garden Show in these parts so that should keep me from going too winter stir-crazy.

  8. I love gardening too Jackie and will look forward to reading your posts about gardening. I am fairly new to planting cut flowers and could use any helpful instuctions I might learn from you.

A few years ago I planted Zinnia seeds and they produced the most beautiful purple/fuschia colored zinnias. I saved the seeds from the flowers for the next year and planted them, but I was so sad when they did not grow back. I've not been able to find that type of zinnia seed since.

I live in Indiana and am looking so forward to seeing flowers again. Love your picture that brings some sunshine today.

  9. Re: Your latest and no-comments post... All I can offer are cyber Gentle Hugs. And the hope that you don't TRY too hard.

You may well have some more time of not being productive... And of glazing over when the children tell you things... And not keeping up with the laundry...

But your first duty is to give your own body, the rest it needs. To fight off and get better from this horrid Pneumonia.

    Please......

Women don't come naturally by thinking of themselves first. But at times, it is the ONLY way to think and to go. Self TLC will insure you get your "regular healthy self" back. So you can do allllll those numerous things, which go with your present job in life.

    Please...

    Gentle hugs,

  10. Thanks so much for the link to your garden pictures. They're simply beautiful and took my mind away from the gray, rainy day outside my windows. Now I'm inspired to start thinking about my garden.
